International Lineman's Rodeo

This blog is about the wee McShorties, but a slight digression about Mama McShortie. She used to work for an electric utility company and her heart still goes pitty-pat when it comes to linemen and the job they do for us all. I bet you didn't know this, but the 25th annual International Lineman's Rodeo was in Kansas City this past weekend. The rodeo features teams from utility companies across the country and the world (we saw flags from the UK, New Zealand, and Canada) who compete in rodeo events such as hurtman rescue and pole climb, among others. It is a BIG deal, and features some very talented linemen doing some very difficult tasks very quickly and very safely.

The McShorties, Daddy Mac, Carmen, and Mama Mac had the opportunity to attend this year. Other than the fact that it rained for the 3 days leading up to the rodeo and in fact that day itself (which led to MUD -- which will be the feature of a future blog entry), it was a fantastic event and fun was had by our little contingent. Daddy Mac, Mama Mac and little Mr. McShortie even got to ride in a bucket truck (also to be featured in a future blog entry)!

Finally, a big thank you to all the linemen from across the country who are currently putting in long hard hours, in dangerous and adverse conditions, and away from family and friends to get the power on in Texas and Louisiana. Be safe out there!
