Mr. McShortie has been seeing a lot of health professionals recently. While visiting Aunt Short on our recent vacation, and climbing a tree in the backyard, Mr. slid down a branch and unfortunately got part of it stuck in his leg. After consulting with the neighbor EMT, we went off to the local hospital (great people -- I highly recommend Lewis Gale). Our brave little boy got his first x-rays and lots of cuddles from mommy. It was big enough would that they would have put 2 stitches in it, other than it was a puncture wound, and that apparently increases the risk of infection. So, they sealed it up with surgical tape, put a big bandaid on it, and we were able to walk out. It is healing nicely, and Mister is up to his usual running, climbing, etc. As one of my friends put it, it is pretty darn amazing given how active our boy is that we got to almost 5 years before his first ER run! One of my favorite parts of the trip was that they took his vitals in the hospital, and noted that he was "square." 42 inches high, and 42 pounds!

A couple of shots of the brave boy from the ER.

Next, last week we visited the dentist. It was old news for Mister, and I wasn't even there for most of his cleaning and visit, as I was hanging with little Miss on her first trip. He checked out great! Little Miss even did very well for her maiden voyage. Her only issue is that it is time to give up the "aweesha" (her name for her pacifier -- I have no idea how you actually spell it). She's still been using it at night, but her teeth are apparently starting to move because of it. Since the visit, Daddy has been able to get her down without it, and even after Mommy puts her down the aweesha fairy comes in as soon as she is asleep to remove the pacifier. So far so good in getting trying to get rid of her security object.
Finally, we had Mister's 5 year checkup (a couple of weeks early) today! All good, and all healthy. He was lucky enough to get 3 shots this trip. After a little anxiety and a little hollering, he got them and is doing well. They caught him at 42 pounds and 43 inches (he grew an inch in 2 weeks? I think someone is rounding). He is tracking right at 50th percentiles for weight and height.
Hopefully no more doctors until little Miss' 4 year old checkup!
